Howard University State of the University Address: Spring 2022

Howard University President, Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, delivered the Spring 2022 State of the University Address on April 14, 2022. Dr. Frederick presented updates on the Howard Forward Plan, COVID-19 mask mandates and protocols, reported on the university's finances and public safety, and addressed mental health awareness. Dr. Frederick delivered the address in front of an audience of the university's staff, students, community leaders, and officials.

Howard University Charter Day Convocation 2022

Howard University's 155th Charter Day Convocation on March 4, 2022, and U.S. Representative Gregory Meeks (D-NY, 5th District) served as the guest orator. Meeks received the Doctor of Humane Letters, the University's highest honor, at the ceremony. He is one of our most distinguished alums, a graduate of Howard University's Law School Class of 1978, 12-term United States House of Representatives member, and the current Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Lucy Diggs Slowe Way Street Designation Ceremony at Howard University

On October 22, 2021, Howard University hosted the Lucy Diggs Slowe Society for the street renaming ceremony in honor of the late Lucy Diggs Slowe. The 2400 block of 4th Street NW was renamed Lucy Diggs Slowe Way in honor of Ms. Slowe, Howard alumnae, and educator who served as the first Dean of Women at the university. Ms. Slowe was also an accomplished athlete. She won the first American Tennis Association tournament in 1917 and was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Featured speakers at the ceremony included Howard Provost Anthony Wutoh, Dean Phylicia Rashad of Chadwick Boseman School of Fine Arts, and Roxanne Aaron, President of the American Tennis Association.
