Removal of Underground Storage Tank at Howard University East Property

Howard University will contract with AKRF to coordinate and oversee the removal of a 550-gallon diesel Underground Storage Tank (UST) located on Howard’s East Campus School of Divinity, at 1400 Shepherd Street NE, Washington, DC

AKRF will remove the UST in accordance with all applicable DOEE regulations and procedures. AKRF will enlist the services of A-Zone to perform the UST removal, backfill and provide site repair. A-Zone will remove the UST and all associated piping as well as the concrete pad and a select portion of fencing around the UST to gain access. A Zone will transport the clean UST to an appropriate receiving facility and provide the required documentation of its disposal.

While the UST excavation is open, AKRF will collect the two required soil confirmation samples for the appropriate analytical suite for diesel fuel (i.e., volatile organic compounds via EPA Method 8260B, semi- volatile organic compounds via EPA Method 8270C and total petroleum hydrocarbons gasoline/diesel/oil range organics via EPA Method 8015M). The samples will be analyzed by Phase Separation Science, Inc., of Catonsville, MD.
